GUEST HOST SIR REGINALD JOHNSON WALKER V – S02 E08.5

By  @ 04/26/13 in Fans of the Show
Charley and Groucho are off working on the stage presentation of “Groucho Marx LIVE!”, so they are on hiatus this episode leaving the producer Sir Reginald Johnson Walker V holding down the fort.  Reginald does his best to provide some worthy entertainment including an old time radio commercial for Pabst Blue Ribbon Beer, a replay of “Queen of Kittens” by previous guest Kirk Irvine (S01 E07) and a surprise visit from Humphrey Clarence Walker who happens to be Reginald’s half-brother.

Quote of the episode: “Alright, next one is: ‘Was it just me?’ – women for women – OH! Here’s a dirty little one …  It says ‘I met you at a party over the weekend. You have been on my mind ever since. You happen to have a gf. I am not a ‘home wrecker’. Thus why I am posting here anonymously. I couldn’t help but notice you looking at me. It could just be my ego talking, or maybe you were just showing respect and paying attention to the conversation at hand. If I am totally reading too much into our meeting, please accept my apologies. Maybe you have a ‘truly’ available friend you could introduce me to instead??’ – Well, I hope that works out for you ladies.”

Dave, Andy and Ben from the podcast FFOP Radio join Groucho to discuss podcasting, movies, friendships, video games and more!

In the Random Segment Charley talks about “first date night” after the birth of Drew which included a dinner and a show plus a whole lot more!
Quote of the episode:
DAVE: So the two things I can say to aspiring internet entrepreneurs is this: Equipment.  Focus on equipment, learn all you can and number two have structure in your show because, I always am looking for new shows, and I follow a lot of shows on Twitter and they follow me back.
GROUCHO: Well, that’s how we met.
DAVE: Exactly! Your show is a perfect example because it has structure. It has A to B to C to D. It’s not just a random gab fest for an hour and a half where you’re like … ‘I forgot why I started.’
GROUCHO: Yes, you’re right. You’re right! It does have structure.
DAVE: So those are the two things I will push the strongest. Quality equipment and structure. If it’s not funny or interesting if you have structure people will come.
ANDY: My tip is to … disrupt David’s structure because a lot of times that’s where will you get the best material you have.
GROUCHO: Throwing a monkey wrench into his soufflé there?
ANDY: Yeah.

SCOTT: When I graduated high school, I got a job and I was still trying to figure out what I wanted to do.
GROUCHO: As everybody does.
SCOTT: Yeah. And I was like … You know what? I have always wanted to play drums for some reason so I’m gonna buy a set. So I bought a set put it in my room and just played. Luckily I was living in my garage too.
GROUCHO: So it worked out twice as well that way.
SCOTT: So I could play all day and no one would care.

ELIZABETH “LIZZIE” JOHNSON – S02 E06

Elizabeth “Lizzie” Johnson joins Groucho to talk about her original play “A Day in my So-Called life” which played at the end of October 2012 for three performances to full houses and received high accolades from all who attended and shares what her future goals are.
Reginald reads the “Facebook Story” composed of listener contributions. Charley rambles on about ClassActSanDiego.com and more!
Quote of the episode: “I’m not passionate about any of those things. I can’t imagine living without drama in my life. My life would be so boring and I don’t feel that I would have very much purpose without theatre. I feel that it’s unfair to myself to go and major in something ‘sciencey’ or ‘mathy’ just because it’s not what I want to do.”

Quote of the episode:
NICK: “My favorite is never when a show goes absolutely perfect.  We had my friend Jeremy on who actually writes the comic strip that I do … but he was on and he was pretty self conscience and he made the mistake that we did recording our first episode and got just belligerently drunk so I kind of revel in the chaos that happens when something goes crazy.
GROUCHO: So when everything goes against the norm.
NICK: Yeah. I like to see how far it will go and if we can ever rein it back in.”

Quote of the episode:
NAYT: To me its … you know … with the internet in general, I think is what has caused the whole sensation. I mean basically we can call it entertainment on demand, but really we are now releasing information on demand.
GROUCHO: That’s one way to put it. Very true, very true.
NAYT: In one of my previous blogs I wrote about his actually. It was 20, 30 plus years ago, if you wanted to know the weight of the moon; you might be lucky enough to find something in a library after getting your parents permission to drive you up there and they drop you off and then having to hopefully know the Dewey decimal system or to ask for assistance and then dig through the books and then dig through pages upon pages upon pages after looking at a glossary that might have been incorrect. And then finally finding the information.
GROUCHO: You sound like you’ve done this before.
NAYT: Where now you just simply open a browser go to one little search bar and just in the time that I explained it and probably less we were able to find out the weight of the moon is. … Wow! That doesn’t even make sense.
GROUCHO: So you didn’t get an accurate answer?
NAYT: It’s 7.35 times 10 to the power of 22, whatever that means.
GROUCHO: Well, that sounds about right to me.

Quote of the episode:
JOHN: “I said that because I don’t think you can love or hate words. They’re just words.
GROUCHO: Ah … very poignant.
JOHN: There are lots of words out there and they only have meaning when you give them meaning. So words are tools. As good tools and bad tools. So ‘cheese’ can be as good a word as it is a bad a word.”
